Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will gove you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Matthew 11: 28-29
Jesus gives us and incredible promise of entering God's rest, of finding rest for our souls as we draw near to him. But how can we draw near unless we carve out some time to rest - to enter his loving embrace?
Rest isn't only for our souls; it's also for our minds and bodies. In our crazy, loud and busy lives we can only go so long before we need a break. But if we give ourselves regular breaks we give God the chance to replenish us long before we overextend ourselves, crash and burn.
Fitness expert, Sean Foy, says one of the best things we can do for our bodies, especially if we are challenging ourselves on a regualr basis, is to take a break. This is one of the best things we can do for our souls as well. Take a break. Carve out some time for quiet in your life. Make it a habit. Ahhhhhhhhhh. Sabbath.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Being intentional about respite is invaluable for our minds, bodies and souls.
