"From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17 The word "repent" has been short-changed for many followers of Jesus Christ! When the word was used in the Old Testament, it meant "be sorry." But in the New Testament, the Greek word for repent means "reconsider or think differently." Too often we've been taught to be sorry, but we haven't been pointed onward to change or be transformed. In Matthew 4:17, Jesus is telling us to change the way we think! Everything is different now that He's entered the earth realm. In Romans 12:2 Paul tells us, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." So how are we to change our minds? With the Word of God. We can, by choice, put our minds into the Potter's hands and let Him mold us and shape us. We can guard our heart and feed on the Spirit."Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4 And we can enter the kingdom of God by changing our belief system from that of the world and into that of Christ. In Matthew 18:3 we read: "And he said: 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'" Why does Jesus say we should be like little children? Because they have open minds and are willing to learn how to live their lives from how they are taught. The kingdom of heaven is here! It surrounds us and is totally accessible to us. We have a choice! We can submit and allow the Word of God to change us . . . or we can stay with the worldly thinking that keeps us blind and in the dark. We can allow the Light of Christ to enter into the dark places of our mind and understanding so we can be renewed. What a precious gift from our loving God.
